not at all what hostel looked like on website...room was small, old and stuffy
Location is perfect. bedding, towels and shared bathroom are all clean. staff eager to help but do not speak English. Internet available.
In the not-yet renovated parts, the floor though not dusty, gives a false impression of greasy-looking, the door is too old. elevator door does not close autometically, so sometimes it got stuck on the third floor, and we had to climb.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was great - a short walk to the Puerta del Sol and the Opera metro stop.
Good location, next to many tourist attractions, bar, etc. Guest can get entertained from bar customers during sleeping time. Trash collection at 3 am will make guest feel good on how clean the city is from the rhythm of trash bin dumping. Share bathroom will make you feel good about your cozy bathroom at your home. Off course, I would highly recommend to review your decision before hitting the key.
Breakfast at the 100 meters away restaurant with hotel voucher at the value 4.7 Euro, you will have a huge variation of 4 choices with at 2 items for one serve eligibility. One of them is either coffee or tea. Your main course can vary one croissant or one mini sandwich. If you are asking for others in the menu beyond what you have been told, a very polite response in Espana style would make you feel bad about your decision you had made to stay at this hotel.
We had a lovely time during our stay at Hostal Luz. The lady running the hostal was very friendly and always happy to help. There was a bit of a language barrier between us as she did not speak English and we did not speak much Spanish but we seemed to understand each other. The room was clean, comfortable and reasonably sized. Great value for the price we paid! The hostal is in a great location, right near a metro stop and in the centre of the city. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Madrid.
1. Location excellent. Centrally located. 2. Room clean good enough size and clean bathroom air conditioner works great. 3. Value for money
1.Breakfast is just a crossiat and coffee should be more
Great location, great shower, very clean and comfy room, helpful staff (though they don't speak english).
Two twin beds were very narrow and shifted during the night (moved easily).
Very good budget hotel smack in the middle of madrid. Clean rooms and super wifi. The facilities were generally 3 start hotel worth.
The rooms on the street soda can be quite noisy, so take the one near the court side
Nice clean room, friendly staff. good functioning aiconditioning yey!
Located in a suprisingly busy street so if you like it quiet, try to get a room at the back. The breakfast was quite bad (coffee and a croissant).
the location was fantastic!! Right in the center of Madrid, most things were within walking distance, and anything that wasn't (ie the airport) was easily accessible by the subway, which was just outside the door as well. Clean place, breakfast included at a local cafe (small sandwich & coffee)
Margery is the greatest hostess. Very knowledgeable and helpful. The location is unubeatable for a visit to Madrid . We hope to return to stay at the Luz.
It was very convenient, located right on a main shopping street but also a 5 minute walk to the metro station. When we stayed we didn't stay in the area, so being by the metro was really nice especially because you can buy 10 metro rides for just under 10 euro. But hostal luz was definitely a good base camp
The rooms are really tiny, so if you plan on doing more than just sleeping in your room, there really isn't space. But there's so much to do in madrid you shouldn't be sitting in the room during vacation anyway
The location is excellent and the rooms are really nice (the ones in the modern side of the hostel, not the older ones). People said there would be noise during the night but I didn´t hear anything, it was really great. There is the subway, the opera, lots of places to eat and drink and a street of shops (with a great starbucks) that leads us to Sol. It is great because its location is central but not in the middle of confusion. The room was really clean and great, we had champô, soap and even a hair dryer. The owner Margarita is really nice altough very confused with her work.
When we arrived they didn´t have our room, I´d reserved a double for me and my boyfriend and they gave us a really old room in front of the reception with to beds that couldn´t be joined. When I complained, in spanish (which luckely I speak well), the woman, which was the cleaning lady and not the owner, began to shout with me and insulting my boyfriend. She didn´t listen to us, used idiomatic expressions that he couldn´t understand if it weren´t for me and insulted us several times. She said she wouldn´t give us our money back and that we could call the police if we wanted to. After two hours Margarita came and she immediately gave us another great room. Anyway, I found an hostel next to Luz, I think it´s called Hispania, that´s much more great and the lady is absolutely lovely, besides that its cheaper. I would strongly advise to prefer that one, otherwise good luck :)
Really, everything was great. Ideal location near Opera metro station, perfect cleanlinness, very comfortable rooms. The hostess is a very sweet and friendly lady who was very helpful not only with things related to our stay in the hostal, but also with everything about the city.
Its convenience to the centre of Madrid. Its informality. Staff were pleasant and efficient and tolerant of my limited Spanish. My room was towards the back of the hotel and so was very quiet - I didn´t suffer from the street noise which is inescapàble in Madrid on a Friday and Saturday night especially.
Being on the third floor a lift was essential, but the lift here must be the narrowest I have ever seen. It was only just possible to get my suitcase in. But this wasn´t the fault of the hotel, rather the need to squeeze a lift into the available space (the stairwell.)
